LUCCA SUMMER FESTIVAL

June 15 – July 26, 2021

The annual Lucca Summer Festival takes place every year in the historical centre of Lucca in Piazza Napoleone. Boasting performances by some of the most influential artists internationally,  the Lucca Summer Festival is the highlight of the Northern Tuscan events calendar. The festival normally starts normally at the end of June and it runs all July long.

By car: take the highway A11 (Florence-Pisa), exit “Lucca Est”. The city offers many parking lots, some are free, some are paid. You can reach Piazza Napoleone with the shuttle service.

By train: from La Spezia you can easily reach Lucca. Either catch the train from Aulla – La Spezia, or drive and park.

PISTOIA BLUES

The first Pistoia Blues Festival dates back to 1980. 

Since then, people travel from across the globe every year to experience a rich program of blues and rock.

While Pistoia is not widely known as a place to visit in Tuscany, it’s gorgeous traditional Tuscan architecture and Piazza Duomo with magnificent San Zeno Cathedral create the perfect stage backdrop. 

By car: Take the Highway A1 ( Milan-Rome), exit “Firenze Nord”, then take the A11 in direction “Viareggio”, exit “Pistoia”.

By train: From the S.M. Novella Station take trains in direction Prato, Pistoia, Montecatini, Lucca, and get off in Pistoia.

PUCCINI FESTIVAL

July 17 – August 31, 2021

The Puccini Festival celebrates the greatest of Puccini Operas and even those who have never experienced Opera before will fall in love with this experience.

The most acclaimed names in opera have taken part in the numerous editions of the festival which are attended by people from all over the world.

Performances take place in Torre del Lago in July and August at the “Gran Teatro All’Aperto”, the outdoor theatre stage.

 

By car: Take the Autostrada toward Pisa – takes about 1 hour.

OPERA & PERFORMANCE

Teatro Carlo Felice – Genova.  Just over an hour to Genova the opera house offers music, opera, ballet and more.  See more.

Teatro Civico – La Spezia has a wide repetoire and also caters for children with music, opera, puppetry and dance.

La Scala – Milano  – Milan is over 2 hrs drive but can also be reached by train.  An overnight stay may be worth it if you are an opera fan.

SERAVEZZA BLUES FESTIVAL

July, 2021

Only in it’s 5th year, the  Seravezza Blues Festival draws in a crowd of thousands for four nights of music, dance and theatre performances. 

Nestled between the Apuan Alps and the Versilia coast, near Lucca, this small town is fast making a name for itself as one of the best cultural events on the Tuscan calendar. 

A dedicated children’s area offers up craft lessons and a shuttle service is on hand to the Querceta train station on Saturday and Sunday.

How to get there: The best way is to reach Seravezza is to drive from the Versilia coast up to Querceta, leave your car and take shuttle.

Most villages host ‘Sagra’ or ‘Feste’ typically involving food – so Italian!  Look at local notice boards and check facebook.
